This is a great article from the Hill Times regarding taxpayer subsidies of federal political parties. Even Elizabeth May makes a good point that the tax subsidy provided by outrageous tax rebates for political donations is off kilter. You get a better tax deal donating to the Bloc, for example, than donating to a food bank in your town. Seems we know where the real charities out there are on the political pecking order.
If voters want to give their money to political parties, then they should be free to give whatever they want.
If people want corporations, unions, etc. out of the political donation game, fine. But if your message is so good, why are people not agreeing with their own money?
