This is a great article from the Hill Times regarding taxpayer subsidies of federal political parties. Even Elizabeth May makes a good point that the tax subsidy provided by outrageous tax rebates for political donations is off kilter. You get a better tax deal donating to the Bloc, for example, than donating to a food bank in your town. Seems we know where the real charities out there are on the political pecking order.
If voters want to give their money to political parties, then they should be free to give whatever they want.
If people want corporations, unions, etc. out of the political donation game, fine. But if your message is so good, why are people not agreeing with their own money?

The Bricklin, Symbol of Government Success
The inaugural post of the Bricklin Blog is dedicated to the wonderful scandal that was, and is, Bricklin Motors.
For those of you not familiar with the Bricklin, here is a link to the CBC story announcing the musical to be commissioned by the Fredericton Playhouse. Quite ironic that the musical is being funded by federal government and municipal government tax dollars. I thank god we do not have a fourth level of government available to provide more of our dollars to 'the arts'. Since the playhouse in Fredericton is already heavily subsidized, the Bricklin Musical will just add insult to injury to the real victims in this scandal, the New Brunswick taxpayer.
As stated by the press release quoted in the CBC article, "It has all the trappings of a great piece of theatre — there are big dreams, risk takers, a sexy sports car, heated political controversy, and pulsating disco music. What else could you ask for in a musical?"
I have not read the whole press release, but certainly the playhouse mentioned how the abuse of the citizens of NB by Malcolm Bricklin continues to this day, with our leaders taking our money and subsidizing elites' entertainment wants.
P.J. O'Rourke summed it up best, "Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys." Very apropos in the case of Malcolm Bricklin.
